Job description

Dexter Construction is a large, diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction industry within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking the qualifications and expertise of a Welder based out of Saint John, NB.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Foreman, the Welder is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair for a variety of machinery and mechanical equipment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains welds on various items using a variety of processes for the purposes of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items
• Follow safe manufacturing and material handling practices
• Manufactures and/or repairs equipment and machinery
• Set-up, adjust, and operate various welding equipment based on type of material being welded, bead size, and penetration
• Assemble machinery and equipment as required
• Follow blueprints and engineering specifications and maintain careful records of work performed
• Help prevent breakdowns by checking, cleaning, and oiling machine parts regularly
• Be aware of surroundings at all times
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
• Protect and promote the interest of this company in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy such responsibilities
• Ensure safety of fellow employees
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

• Inter Provincial accreditation tickets, or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of materials, tools, and processes used in gas, arc, and heli-arc welding
• Knowledge of welding qualities and properties of a variety of metals
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and engineering specifications
• Willingness to work in a team environment
• Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
• Comply with all safety policies and procedures
• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed properly
• Working safely is a condition of employment.

Working Conditions:

The Welder has a physically strenuous and demanding job. This position will be lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects, requiring the use of PPE, Hardhat, and Steel Toe Boots, to minimize risk on the worksite. The worksite environment for this position is inside/outside in varying weather conditions. This position is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals and smoke.
