Job summary

Walters Group in Hamilton, Ontario, is seeking a Welder with at least 3 years of structural steel welding experience to join our team at the Hamilton facility.

You will read blueprints, set up welding equipment, operate cranes when required, and mentor apprentices while maintaining strict safety practices and high-quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of welding structural steel experience.
  • Completion of a three year apprenticeship in Metal Fabrication or Welding is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
  • Ability to read a tape measure in both metric and imperial.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes.
  • Ability to weld with Fluxcore and Metalcore (FCAW/MCAW).
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures.
  • A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment.
  • Organization Skills and the ability to be flexible in managing changing priorities.
  • Communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and weld Structural Steel.
  • Rig, hoist and move materials to and from workstation. Performs crane checks daily prior to use to ensure the crane is in working condition, if applicable.
  • Lay out reference points and symbols on the structural steel according to the blueprint.
  • Operate welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as flux-cored arc welding.
  • Set up and operate various equipment such as torches, drills, various clamping tools, squares, disc grinders and other hand held tools.
  • Ensure safe work practices are adhered to and appropriate PPE is worn at all times.
  • Mentors apprentices and junior welders by sharing knowledge and safe work practices.

About the Position:

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Welder will be responsible for but not limited to:

Compensation Package:
  • Wage: $22.00-$33.00/Hour
