Position Overview

The Weld Engineer reports to the Manager of Quality Control and Engineering and represents BWXT Canada’s Field Services and Projects division within the Weld Engineering department. The role establishes and manages Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) and ASME welding programs for all projects and provides ongoing support to the weld engineering team.

Location: On-site in Cambridge, Ontario

Your Day to Day as a Weld Engineer
  • Welding Program Management: Establish, maintain, and ensure compliance of CWB and ASME welding programs, procedures, and processes across Field Services and Projects.
  • Proposal Support: Assess welding complexity, cost, and constructability for project proposals.
  • Research & Development: Explore and implement new welding technologies, processes, and automated systems.
  • Weld Process Support: Develop, qualify, and approve welding procedures (PQR, WPS/WPDS) and processes for new applications.
  • Consumables Management: Procure, track, and maintain welding consumables for code and non-code applications.
  • Customer & Regulatory Relations: Represent BWXT in interactions with customers and regulatory authorities on weld engineering matters.
  • Project Support: Provide predeployment planning, review technical specifications, reconcile procedures and consumables to codes, train trades, and resolve on-site welding engineering issues.
  • Quality Oversight: Ensure adherence to welding quality programs and provide technical guidance to trades and technicians.
  • On-site Welding Support: Provide on-site welding engineering support, oversight, and repairs at customer locations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Manufacturing, Welding, or Mechanical) and P.Eng designation.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in metal fabrication and welding, including 5 years in field applications, construction, or repair.
  • Strong background in manufacturing environments, welding procedures, material properties, and metallurgy.
  • In-depth knowledge of N285, CSA W47/W59, and ASME codes.
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in CAD, Word, and Excel.

Security Clearance:

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process in accordance with regulatory requirements of the CSIS and CNSC; this process may take up to 12 months.
