Job summary

Webber and its companies is seeking a Highway Maintenance Technician to maintain contracted assets such as roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, end treatments, tunnels, vegetation, and related infrastructure per contract specifications.

The role requires operating vehicles and equipment for surface and right-of-way maintenance, performing snow removal, and complying with safety rules. The position offers overtime and variable shifts, with weekend duties possible.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in construction, road maintenance, or highway infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair highway and other surfaces, including signs, guardrails, fences, potholes, reflectors, and shouldering.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment for surface and right-of-way maintenance and repair, including slopes, berms, culverts, drains, and vegetation control.
  • Remove snow and ice using snow removal and/or sanding equipment.
  • Set up and remove traffic control measures.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites.
  • Participate in emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Project Engineer or Field Services Foreperson, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining contracted assets such as roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, end treatments, tunnels, vegetation, and related infrastructure per the specifications in the contract. The pay range for this position is $25–$27 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair highway and other surfaces, including signs, guardrails, fences, potholes, reflectors, and shouldering.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment for surface and right‑of‑way maintenance and repair, including slopes, berms, culverts, drains, and vegetation control.
  • Remove snow and ice using snow removal and/or sanding equipment.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Set up and remove traffic control measures.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites.
  • Participate in emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Consistently follow all policies and procedures.
  • Interpret written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Work effectively in an environment with rapidly changing demands and priorities.
  • Skillfully use hand and power tools, traffic control devices, and mobile equipment such as tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, augers, skid‑steers, boom trucks, and other relevant equipment.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industrial repair, maintenance, or highway infrastructure (preferred).
Certifications and Licenses
  • Valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s license or higher with an acceptable driving record.
  • Successful completion of training in traffic control methods, first aid, transportation of dangerous goods, WHMIS, and job‑related aspects of Occupational Health.
Work Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Use of manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric tools and equipment.
  • Routine exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, high and precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, insects, and reptiles/rodents.
  • Moderate to sometimes high noise levels.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate to the job.
