Position Summary

Identify or verify required maintenance work, interpret contracts, schedule and coordinate in-house or subcontractor work, and ensure work meets contract specifications. Supervise maintenance crews, manage project assets, and work closely with Operations and Contract Managers to meet timelines, cost, and safety objectives.

Pay Range: $75,000 – $80,000 annually.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform condition assessment of pavements, signs, guardrails, tunnels, bridges, vegetation and other contract infrastructure and assets.
• Schedule and coordinate work to be performed.
• Work with the Operations Manager to determine the best approach (self‑performance or subcontract) for bringing assets into contract compliance considering cost, timelines, and efficiency.
• Plan and coordinate all work items.
• Inspect ongoing and completed work to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
• Supervise maintenance crews, including selection, development, and performance management.
• Facilitate all required new‑hire training and ongoing safety and work‑standard training.
• Respond to incident emergencies and coordinate work of on‑site responders.
• Report accident/injury (actual and near misses).
• Coordinate with fleet teams/mechanics for inspection, calibration, and repair of the fleet.
• Manage, monitor, and control highway project assets and materials.
• Identify opportunities for changes and improvements in work methods, processes, efficiency, and cost reduction.
• Create and manage successful completion of all work orders.
• Review claims for damages on the highway system for validity and arrange collection of data on such claims.
• Work with field coordinators to ensure accurate documentation and reporting of work as per contractual requirements and company policies.
• Manage inventory for consumables with field coordinators.
• Provide direct detail to ministry staff, other contractors, external agencies, and the general public to respond to complaints and issues regarding drainage, signs, entrance permits, and road conditions.
• Work with the Contract Manager to identify and qualify subcontractors and assist in negotiating contract parameters with subcontractors.
• Assist and monitor routine work‑plan activities such as traffic control and maintenance work.
• Be available for emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Other duties as assigned by the Contract Manager.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Perform basic math functions and calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate proportions, percentages, measurements, area, and circumference).

• Lead by example as a supervisor; encourage proper use of PPE and enforce safety rules, including corrective and disciplinary actions when necessary.

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma.
• Minimum five years of work experience in construction and/or road maintenance industry.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Work Conditions and Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, sit, walk on varied surfaces, use hands, reach, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted. Use manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric tools. Work splits between office and field; office time involves prolonged sitting; field work exposes employee to weather, heat and cold, wet or humid conditions, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, noise levels that may be moderate to high, occasional toxic or caustic chemicals, and potential hazards.
