Mandate
Reporting to the Manager, Digital Development and User Experience, the Web Development Officer plays an integral role in UCAM’s mandate to drive partnerships and investments. Through brand, content and user-centered strategies, including web research methodologies, content development, and analytics, they plan and implement branded, consistent and persuasive web projects across campus to raise UVic’s profile, reputation and brand affinity.
Objectives
- Develop web projects that are user-centered, data-driven, accessible and on brand
- Develop web content that is accurate, clear, user-centered and on brand
- Provide web and content support and solutions to partners to meet university standards and applicable accessibility legislation
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to bachelor’s degree in information systems, communications, information design, or similar field plus 3 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Knowledge/skills/abilities

- Demonstrated experience in information architecture, user experience, and complex digital projects
- Discovery research experience for large institutional websites and other current and emerging technologies (including research design and planning)
- Directing the creation of audience testing methodologies and working groups
- Conducting comparative institutional communications reviews
- Persona, journey and story development of user experiences for large institutional websites
- Defining creative solutions for clear, effective and persuasive online communications
- Wireframing, workflow mapping, prototype definition, and user testing communications solutions
- Resource planning both for the research and discovery of new solutions, as well as resource projections for the implementation of these solutions
- Experience with XHTML, CSS and enterprise content management systems
- Experience with Google Analytics, Google Data studio, Dubbot and related analytical tools
- Understanding of web content strategy, advanced accessibility best practices, strategic communications and marketing, information architecture and user experience
- Proficiency navigating and using relevant office equipment and software, including MS Office and Office 365, content management systems, and project management applications
- An advanced knowledge of style guides and grammar
- Demonstrated advanced proof reading and editing
- Strong customer service skills
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailor communication style for different audiences and situations
- Ability to identify and analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes

- Experience with higher ed communications
