Job summary

WSP's Dartmouth LDME team seeks an Intermediate Water & Wastewater Engineer to help shape resilient Atlantic Canada communities through the design of pump stations, treatment facilities, and related upgrades.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams across all project phases—planning, preliminary engineering, detailed design, tendering, construction, and commissioning—applying hydraulics and facility design expertise.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical or related Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Atlantic Canada.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive engineering experience in municipal water or wastewater projects.

As an Intermediate Water & Wastewater Engineer, you’ll help shape resilient communities across Atlantic Canada by contributing to the planning, design, and delivery of pump stations, booster stations, treatment facilities, and related facility upgrades. You will apply your experience in hydraulics, water and wastewater facilities, treatment processes and/or pumping systems, equipment selection, and multidisciplinary facility design to help clients develop reliable, sustainable infrastructure.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to projects from process evaluation, facility planning, and preliminary engineering through detailed design, tendering, construction services, start-up, performance testing, and commissioning support.

Candidates may bring experience in water or wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, or both; expertise in either area will be considered valuable.

This role also offers flexibility for professionals interested in pursuing a technical design career path, a project management career path, or a blend of both.

Your Impact

• Plan, design, and support the delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pump stations, lift stations, booster stations, water and wastewater treatment systems , and/or facility upgrades.
• Contribute to projects both within and outside the local region, working with national technical specialists and project teams.
• Deliver water and wastewater facility projects through all phases of development, including studies, condition assessments, preliminary engineering, detailed design, tendering, construction services, and commissioning support.
• Support the evaluation, planning, and design of water and wastewater facilities, which may include pumping systems, treatment infrastructure, equipment selection, hydraulic analyses, and/or facility upgrades.
• Prepare and review design criteria, process and hydraulic calculations, technical memoranda and reports, equipment evaluations, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents.
• Coordinate process, civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation and controls, and architectural requirements within multidisciplinary facility designs.
• Work with clients, municipalities, regulators, contractors, equipment suppliers, and internal multidisciplinary teams.
• Support successful project delivery by coordinating technical work, managing assigned scope and budgets, monitoring schedules and risks, and maintaining quality, safety, and client-service expectations.
• Apply independent engineering judgment to resolve technical and project-delivery challenges.
• Participate in site investigations, condition assessments, equipment inspections, facility start-up, and commissioning.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, designers, and technical staff, as appropriate to your experience.
• Support proposals, client engagement, and relationship-building activities.
• Contribute to the growth of WSP's water and wastewater practice in Atlantic Canada by sharing knowledge and advancing consistent design practices.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical or related Engineering discipline from a recognized university.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Atlantic Canada.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive engineering experience in the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water or wastewater pumping, treatment and/or facility-infrastructure projects, preferably in a consulting environment.
• Experience delivering water and wastewater facility projects, including pump stations, lift stations, booster stations, treatment facilities, and related infrastructure.
• Experience with construction-phase services, commissioning support, site inspections, or facility start-up activities is considered an asset.
• Experience supporting project delivery, including scope, budget, schedule, and client coordination responsibilities.
• Experience preparing technical reports, engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates and contract documentation.
• Proven ability to build strong relationships with clients, municipalities, regulators, and project stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills with a commitment to quality and safety.

Compensation

• AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $84,500 - $113,500
• MB & ON: $77,100 - $107,700
• NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $76,300 - $102,800
