Stantec Consulting International Ltd. invites a Water Resources Engineer to join its Land Services Team. The role focuses on modeling, design, and oversight of surface water projects across private and public sectors. Travel to Waterloo, London, or Hamilton offices is possible.

The candidate should have a 2–4 year background in water resources or civil engineering, with Ontario licensure or eligibility and strong skills in reporting, fieldwork, and client coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field, with 2–4 years of experience.
• Professional Engineer license in Ontario, CET designation, or eligibility to obtain licensure/designation.
• Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking modeling and design tasks for surface water works across private/public sectors.
• Perform calculations using standard and proprietary software (SWMHYMO, PCSWMM, MIDUSS, GAWSER, HEC-RAS, FlowMaster, CulvertMaster, Visual OTTHYMO).
• Coordinate with engineers and staff to meet project needs in a timely manner.
• Prepare/review technical reports and design briefs and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Guide projects from feasibility to design, scheduling, tendering, construction, and certification.
• Liaise with clients and agencies to determine project requirements and approvals.
• Perform field work such as monitoring surface water systems and water quality sampling.
• Manage surface water projects to ensure on-time, on-budget completion.

An opportunity exists within Stantec’s Land Services Team for a Water Resources Engineer, Certified Engineering Technologist or Engineering Graduate. The position will be based out of the Waterloo, London, or Hamilton office, but may require travel to other regional Stantec offices.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Undertaking modeling and design tasks associated with surface water works in support of a wide variety of projects in both the private and public sectors. Assignments could include stormwater management and Low Impact Development designs, subwatershed plans, floodplain delineation/management analyses, drainage assessments for transportation projects, renewable energy projects, erosion control studies, etc.;

• Perform calculations to analyze and design water resources system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software (e.g., SWMHYMO, PCSWMM, MIDUSS, GAWSER, HEC-RAS, FlowMaster, CulvertMaster, Visual OTTHYMO etc.).;

• Coordinate with engineers, technical staff and/or team members in various disciplines to ensure that the projects’ needs are met in a timely and effective manner;

• Preparation/review of technical reports and design briefs to document analyses including taking responsibility for the quality of written, technical and graphic work. Review designs and reporting for compliance with municipal, provincial and federal regulations;

• Help guide projects through to completion, from due diligence/feasibility work, preliminary/ conceptual design, through to detailed design, scheduling, tendering, construction, and certification;

• With the support of senior staff, liaise with clients, agencies and others to determine project requirements and obtain approvals;

• Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer/ designer. Field assignments may include the monitoring of surface water systems and features, water quality sampling, drainage system or bathymetric surveys, etc.; and

• Managing surface water related projects and/or tasks, ensuring completion of work on time and on budget.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of water resources, environmental and/or civil engineering design.

• Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal.

• Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

• Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, standards, and other similar material.

• Hands on experience with stormwater management modelling, such as Visual OTTHYMO, HEC-RAS, and PCSWMM, SWMHYMO, GAWSER, or other models considered an asset. Requires proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).

• Ability to carry out field work within the Waterloo Region on limited notice.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a similar discipline, or a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field, with 2-4 years of related experience. Professional Engineer license in Ontario, Certified Engineering Technologist designation, or eligibility to obtain licensure/designation.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range

Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$75,800.00 - $109,900.00 Annually

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
