Job summary

Marine Atlantic is seeking a Watchkeeping Engineer (Senior Engineer) to work aboard our vessels operating year round from Port aux Basques NL and North Sydney NS, and Argentia NL in summer. This permanent full-time role requires eligible candidates to rotate tours across our fleet.

Ideal applicants will have at least 2 years of recent watchkeeping experience, STCW certificates, and relevant marine qualifications. A signing incentive may be offered with a return of service agreement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years recent experience in watchkeeping or similar role.
  • STCW 6.1 and 6.2 certificates are required.
  • Propulsion Plant Simulator Certificate II is preferred.
  • Transport Canada mandated Marine Medical Certificate must be valid.

Responsibilities

  • Watchkeeping on vessels operating from designated ports.
  • Operate as Senior Engineer in the propulsion plant and related systems.
  • Comply with safety, drug/alcohol, and confined space policies.

Marine Atlantic is currently looking for a Watchkeeping Engineer (Senior Engineer) to work onboard our vessels that operate from the ports of Port aux Basques NL and North Sydney NS year round; and Argentia NL during the summer season. These positions are permanent full-time spare and relief positions that are scheduled across our fleet and each tour based on operational requirements.

What qualifications do I need to be considered for this opportunity?

  • Must demonstrate ability to lift, handle, and carry heavy objects over 20 kg
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
Asset Qualifications
  • Graduate of a recognized Marine school in a related program
  • Work experience as a Welder, Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Refrigeration, Machinist, Pipe-fitter, and Electronics
  • Passenger Safety Management
  • Confined Space Certification
