That’s why you decided to become a waste audit technician. You’re passionate about helping organizations reduce waste and improve their recycling efforts. By doing what you do, you get to make an even greater environmental impact, and that’s exactly what gets you out of bed each morning. This position offers an opportunity to participate in a unique and detailed study that reveals how wasteful people are and how much recycling residents put into the garbage. For 20 years, Waste Reduction Group has solved clients’ challenging waste management problems with creative approaches to waste reduction and recycling. We’re currently seeking several new waste audit technicians who are eager to make an impact, drive results, and be part of our ambitious team.

This is where you come in. As a Waste Audit Technician, you will be expected to:

Responsibilities
  • Work in the field by conducting waste audits for The Regional Municipality of York and other clients
  • Have access to a vehicle to get to and from the site each day
  • Occasionally travel to projects throughout the GTA and Ontario as needed
  • Receive samples of waste from transfer station operators
  • Manually sort waste into many different categories
  • Weigh categories and input values into the database
  • Follow strict safety protocols including the use of PPE
  • Provide additional support for report writing as needed
Work Location
  • York Region Waste Management Centre (YRWMC) located at 100 Garfield Wright Boulevard, East Gwillimbury
  • An infrequent portion of the work is located at Earl Turcott Waste Management Centre (ETWMC), located at 300 Rodick Road, Markham
Qualifications
  • Experience conducting audits for commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors is an asset
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency with MS Office programs including Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • You must have your own transportation and a valid G driver’s license
Compensation and Benefits
  • Starting wage of $18 per hour, plus benefits after 6 months
Eco Canada Internship

This position is partnered with Eco Canada Employment program which connects environmental employers and skilled junior talent through employment programs that offer wage subsidies to drive valuable on-the-job work experience and essential skills training.

Candidate Requirements for Eco Canada Program
  • Intend to pursue an environmental career related to science, technology, engineering, or mathematics
  • Age 30 or younger
  • Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, or refugee status
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Graduated from a post-secondary institution
  • Able to work in a full-time, permanent position within the next 2 months
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Have not participated previously in a federal youth employment or education program
  • Not currently employed as a paid employee at the host organization
  • Not a family member of the host organization’s directors or senior officers
