About Capital One Canada

For 30 years, we’ve been on a mission to change banking for good and build relationships by making credit accessible, simple, intuitive and rewarding. We want to help Canadians succeed with credit, because we believe in people — in our customers, in our associates, and in talent like you!

About This Role

At this important milestone in Capital One’s history following the successful close of the Discover acquisition, Capital One is seeking an experienced and strategic sales leader to lead international acceptance, focused on the Canadian market. This role will report to the SVP and Head of International Acceptance within the Global Payment Network organization and will build and lead multiple teams of sales-focused individuals in closing acceptance gaps across the country. This role is ideal for someone with a strategic mindset, strong knowledge of and connections within the payments ecosystem, and strong leadership and influencing skills.

Discover is a rare and valuable global payments network with 70 million merchant acceptance points in more than 200 countries and territories. Even so, it is the smallest of the four US-based global payments networks. This acquisition adds scale and investment, enabling the Discover network to be more competitive with the largest payments’ networks and payments companies. This is a key foundation in Capital One's quest to build a global payments company. It will accelerate the company's long-standing journey to work directly with merchants to leverage its customer base, technology, and data ecosystem to drive more sales for the merchant and great deals for consumers and small businesses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Increase Discover network acceptance across the Canadian market.
  • Develop and execute strategies to expand our acceptance footprint across merchants, acquirers, and payment service providers.
  • Build and lead the multiple sales teams to achieve aggregate business metrics.
  • Bring further breadth and depth to our relationships across the payments ecosystem in Canada.
  • Monitor performance of existing partners, ensure that each is maintaining or improving on key results indicators.
  • Negotiate profitable contracts with new and existing partners.
  • Monitor market and competitor activity and provide feedback to company leadership and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations by partnering closely with risk, legal, compliance, product and pricing teams to enhance merchant and customer experience.
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with business partners and other support groups across Capital One to ensure connectivity with and support for key initiatives and growth plans.
  • Display a passion for coaching and developing others through their leadership style and presence, whether as direct reports or extended team members
  • Display a high degree of emotional intelligence, foster good team dynamics, respond effectively to employee concerns, and maximize the potential of team members
Pivotal Experience & Expertise
  • Executive Relationship Management: Experience developing deep relationships with senior level partners across many organizations within an assigned country or region.
  • Market Expansion: Experience identifying and evaluating new market opportunities globally.
  • Negotiation: Experience negotiating new agreements with new partners and maximizing profitability and impact of existing relationships and businesses.
  • Team Leadership: Experience building, motivating and developing high-performing teams, with a track record of attracting and leading top talent.
  • Innovation Leadership: Experience providing creative solutions and focused on important success drivers. Experience facilitating teams to innovate, create and be open to change.
  • Sales Excellence: Experience leading a sales organization to drive growth by building structure, process, and discipline leveraging best practices from across the industry.
Critical Competencies
  • Strategic Pipeline Management
  • Analyze critical customer data to identify bottlenecks and drive sales cycle through-put
