Volunteer Coordinator
Salary : $ per year.
Hours : Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week. Occasional weekends may be required.
Employment Type : Full-time permanent.
Location : Hybrid must be able to access the Vancouver Office.
About Canucks Autism Network
Canucks Autism Network (CAN) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing programs for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families while promoting acceptance and inclusion through community engagement and training initiatives across BC. Our vision is for every individual on the autism spectrum to be understood accepted and supported in all community spaces.
We engage a workforce of over 200 volunteers and 400 frontline staff to deliver programs for children youth and adults on the spectrum in communities across British Columbia. Since its inception in 2008 CAN has directly impacted over 8000 members on the autism spectrum.
The Opportunity
Are you passionate about creating inclusive engaging volunteer experiences that make a real impact Join our team at Canucks Autism Network (CAN) as our Volunteer Coordinator! In this role youll help build and sustain a vibrant community of volunteers who support CANs programs and events across the Lower Mainland and beyond.
Youll be the go-to person for volunteersrecruiting onboarding scheduling and ensuring they feel valued and supported. Youll also lend your organizational skills to assist the HR team with recruitment and administrative support. Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Coordination (90%)
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Promote volunteer opportunities through online listings outreach and community engagement.
- Screen volunteer applicants by reviewing applications conducting interviews and ensuring all pre-screening steps are completed (e.g. references background checks and training).
- Represent CAN at volunteer and career fairs in the Lower Mainland.
Scheduling & Communication
- Collaborate with departments to understand volunteer needs and ensure programs and events are fully supported.
- Share volunteer opportunities with the CAN volunteer community and manage the scheduling process in collaboration and consultation with applicable departments.
- Provide volunteers with accurate and timely information about program details and event information when necessary.
- Support Regional Leads and Managers with volunteer scheduling outside the Lower Mainland region.
Volunteer Engagement & Support
- Serve as the main contact for volunteers in the Lower Mainland responding to inquiries in a friendly and professional manner.
- Prepare monthly volunteer newsletters sharing volunteering opportunities and important updates.
- Address volunteer concerns manage conflict resolution and eliminate complex matters to the HR Generalist as needed.
- Support volunteer-to-staff transitions ensuring smooth succession planning.
- Oversee volunteer participation and act as day-of coordinator at major fundraising events in collaboration with relevant departments.
- Contribute to the development and execution of volunteer policies training and engagement initiatives (e.g. milestone recognition annual surveys).
- Use volunteer data to analyze volunteer engagement and report on key metrics.
HR Administrative Support (10%)
- Assist with program staff scheduling and substitute requests.
- Assist with general HR email inquiries.
- Prepare monthly staff newsletters sharing upcoming employment opportunities and important updates.
- Help with staff recruitment initiatives such as screening and interviewing candidates.

Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management Volunteer Administration or a related field.
- Minimum one year of experience supporting a volunteer program or in a Human Resources administrative role (or an equivalent combination of experience and education).
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Exceptional customer service and proactive timely communication skills.
- A collaborative team player who brings positivity adaptability and a willingness to embrace change.
- Strong organization planning and project management abilities with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Confident public speaker comfortable presenting to large groups.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook Excel Word) with experience using volunteer management systems Better Impact experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated diplomacy tact and empathy with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential HR matters appropriately.
- Thrives in a fast-paced dynamic environment with excellent time management and the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends in support of key initiatives such as major events or CAN programs.
