Role Overview & Responsibilities

Are you passionate about helping people make sense of our world through visual storytelling? Do you have a steadfast commitment to the values and standards of exceptional journalism?

CBC New Brunswick is looking for a Videographer to join our newsroom team. This is a full time, permanent position. In this role, you will be a vital part of the CBC NB team, producing visual journalism for our platforms within the scope and time constraints of the local day‑parting schedule.

You will gather, edit, package, and distribute or deliver media for CBC platforms including CBC, GEM, YouTube, digital, streaming, radio, and television. With the creative use of video, still images, graphics and other visual storytelling techniques, you are a specialist in video production who actively contributes creatively to storytelling. You understand video in a way that engages our audience, reaching them where they are and when they need us.

As a forward‑thinking self‑starter, you thrive in the fast‑paced, high‑pressure world of a multi‑platform newsroom. You are just as comfortable working to the tight deadlines of our multiple daily news video deliveries as you are with deliverables on a longer timeline. And you are just as comfortable collaborating with colleagues as you are focusing on independent work. You are a strong problem solver and reliable trouble‑shooter.

In this role, you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, impartial, and told with integrity.

You understand the diverse and changing population of New Brunswick, and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content. You appreciate the range of perspectives that people hold and believe in the importance of giving voice to those perspectives.

You keep current with technologies and industry trends and champion new story treatments and new workflows. You will help create a diverse range of content on our video, digital and social platforms. You’re not afraid to take creative risks, and inspire others to do the same, while producing journalism that matters to our audiences.

You live and promote an inclusive and respectful work culture. You love collaborating with colleagues and have a deep appreciation for different perspectives, opinions and experiences.

Qualifications
  • Creative visual storytelling experience.
  • Demonstrated editorial judgment in breaking news and enterprise journalism.
  • In depth knowledge of video and audio standards, file formats and codecs.
  • Knowledge of video production systems such as the Avid ecosystem or Adobe Premiere Pro or similar.
  • Ability to operate an Electronic News Gathering (ENG) camera and associated technology such as wireless microphones, lighting equipment, and communication tools.
  • Experience in shooting and editing video/mobile footage.
  • Ability and willingness to handle technical operation (camera/audio/troubleshooting) for remote location for livestreaming, or for 6pm program and other live events.
  • Experience with daily deliverables and the ability to respond to the pressures of breaking news.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to handle a variety of functions quickly and efficiently and meet multiple deadlines on multiple platforms.
  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Self‑motivated critical thinker with the ability to innovate.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime is required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote locations.
  • Ability to ask scripted questions of people being recorded or interviewed.
  • A strong team player with experience and/or willingness to work with new reporters to help them develop their on‑camera skills.
  • A post‑secondary degree or equivalent combination of education and experience along with three years of experience relevant to journalism during which the candidate would gain exposure to daily journalism and video technology.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio‑Canada’s insurance company.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

Selection Process

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
