Job description
About Habitat Learn

Habitat Learn is a global leader in inclusive learning technology. Our mission is to make education accessible for all by designing tools that bridge the gap between human understanding and digital experiences. Our flagship platform, Messenger Pigeon, and our hardware-software initiative, the UDL Classroom Project (in partnership with Apple and Humber Polytechnic), are redefining how students with disabilities access and engage with learning materials.

Role Overview

As VP of Product, you will oversee the vision, strategy, and execution of Habitat Learn’s product portfolio — with a primary focus on the UDL Classroom initiative and Messenger Pigeon ecosystem.

You will collaborate closely with design, engineering, project management / accessibility, and operations teams to ensure products are delivered on time, align with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, and our vision.

This role requires both strategic leadership and hands-on execution. Driving roadmap decisions, ensuring sprint accountability, and fostering collaboration between the product (design, and engineering) teams.

Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Vision
  • Partner with the Chief Product Officer to define and execute the product vision across Messenger Pigeon and the UDL Classroom ecosystem.
  • Translate Habitat Learn’s UDL mission into tangible, scalable product experiences that combine accessibility, design, and technology.
Product Delivery & Execution
  • Oversee sprint planning, milestone tracking, and cross-functional delivery to ensure releases meet quality, accessibility, and timeline expectations.
  • Collaborate directly with VP Engineering and project managers to align sprint priorities with strategic goals.
  • Identify bottlenecks or resource challenges early and elevate solutions proactively to keep development on schedule.
  • Establish clear ownership and accountability frameworks across teams.
Design & User Experience Leadership
  • Supervise design direction and user experience standards across all Habitat Learn products, ensuring consistency with UDL and WCAG 2.2 guidelines.
  • Work closely with design leads to ensure student and educator feedback directly informs iteration and feature prioritization.
  • Champion accessibility and inclusive design as non-negotiable pillars of every sprint.
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, and partner institutions (e.g., Humber, Apple) to ensure product-market alignment.
  • Represent product strategy in internal leadership discussions and external partnerships as needed.
  • Provide mentorship and direction to product managers, designers, and QA teams to drive excellence and collaboration.
Data & Insights
  • Define KPIs and success metrics for product performance, user engagement, and accessibility outcomes.
  • Work with analytics and customer success teams to gather insights that inform the product roadmap.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in product management, product design, or UX leadership, ideally in SaaS, EdTech, or accessibility technology.
  • Proven record of managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering software at scale.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508, AODA, FERPA, GDPR).
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex design and technical requirements into strategic roadmaps.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Experience managing cross-border or remote teams is a strong asset.
