About Staffing partners with a Calgary-based financial services client seeking a Vice President of Finance. This in-office role leads accounting across Canadian and US entities, delivering consolidation, reporting, and controls in a fast-paced, multi-currency environment.

The successful candidate will bring CPA designation, 7+ years of progressive accounting leadership, and strong knowledge of ASPE/IFRS. Expect hands-on leadership and collaboration with senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation in good standing is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS).
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and hands-on ERP/accounting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead accounting across multiple legal entities and currencies with accurate reporting.
  • Mentor accounting professionals in general accounting, reconciliations, and core finance functions.
  • Oversee monthly/year-end close, reporting, and multi-entity consolidation.
  • Review KPIs, validate information, and provide analyses for decisions.
  • Develop financial models/scenarios to support strategic planning.
  • Oversee AP/AR/GL and bank reconciliations across entities.
  • Maintain consistent policies, COA, and intercompany processes across jurisdictions.
  • Partner with CFO on cash flow, treasury reporting, and banking relations.
  • Design and maintain internal controls for a multi-entity organization.
  • Coordinate annual audits and external reviews.

Job description

We have partnered with a growing financial services organization to support them in hiring for their next Vice President, Finance.

Our SE Calgary client is a growing financial services organization with operations across Canada and the United States. With multiple business entities and a fast-moving environment, the organization is continuing to build scalable financial processes, strengthen reporting capabilities, and support its next stage of growth.

Strong communication and the ability to build effective relationships with senior leadership and cross-functional teams are highly valued.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Vice President, Finance will lead the accounting function across multiple Canadian and United States (US) entities. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for financial reporting, consolidation, accounting operations, internal controls, compliance, and process improvement. The successful candidate will bring both technical accounting expertise and strong business acumen, with the ability to translate financial information into meaningful insights for senior leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the accounting function across multiple legal entities and currencies, ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent financial information.
  • Manage and mentor accounting professionals across general accounting, reconciliations, and other core finance functions.
  • Oversee monthly and year-end financial close processes, financial reporting, and multi-entity consolidation.
  • Review financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), validate financial information, and provide analysis to support business decisions.
  • Develop financial models and revenue or costing scenarios as required to support strategic planning.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), and bank and merchant reconciliations across multiple entities.
  • Maintain consistent accounting policies, procedures, and chart of accounts across the organization.
  • Partner with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on cash flow management, treasury reporting, and banking relationships.
  • Design, document, and maintain effective internal controls appropriate for a multi-entity organization operating across jurisdictions.
  • Serve as the primary finance contact for external auditors and coordinate annual audit and review engagements.
  • Support financial, regulatory, and compliance reporting requirements across the organization's operating jurisdictions.
  • Lead the optimization of accounting systems, integrations, automation, and financial processes.
  • Establish scalable month-end close and reporting processes to support continued organizational growth.
  • Partner with internal technology and development teams on finance-related systems, reporting tools, and process improvements.
  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to senior leadership and department leaders, providing analysis and insight to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline is required.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing is required.
Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, including Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working hands-on with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or accounting systems.
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
  • Experience working within a multi-entity environment with multiple currencies is highly preferred.
  • Cross-border accounting experience involving Canada and the United States (US) is considered a strong asset.
Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Vice President, Finance Director, or senior accounting leadership role.
  • Experience leading accounting teams while remaining comfortable maintaining a hands-on approach to financial operations.
  • Experience within financial services, payments, fintech, or another regulated industry is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience supporting United States (US) accounting, reporting, or federal and state filing requirements is preferred.
  • Experience implementing or improving accounting systems, automation, reporting processes, or financial controls is highly desirable.

Base Salary: $160,000+ per year
  • Salary is based on experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive compensation and benefits package.

Work Hours:
  • Monday – Friday.
  • Fully in-office position in Calgary, Alberta.
