Job summary

Leslieville Animal Hospital, part of the VetStrategy network, seeks a Veterinary Technician to provide high-quality care for cats and dogs in a supportive, mentorship-rich environment in Toronto.

You will work with an experienced team focused on exceptional patient care, ongoing training, and collaborative case management within a vibrant urban clinic.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Animal Health Technician / Veterinary Technician program.
  • Passing national or regional board exams (VTNE) and provincial registration is a bonus but not required.
  • Open to experienced technicians and new graduates.
  • Strong communication, compassion, teamwork, and patient care mindset.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift 25 kg.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care: Gather animal health histories and vital signs.
  • Diagnostics: Collect samples and run tests or X-rays as needed.
  • Surgical Support: Prep instruments, assist under DVM supervision.
  • Treatments: Administer medications and post-operative care.
  • Client Communication: Educate owners on home care and nutrition.

Clinic and Caseload Overview

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Care: Gather animal health histories, and take vital signs.
  • Diagnostics: Collect blood, urine, or tissue samples and run laboratory tests or X-rays.
  • Surgical Support: Prep instruments, sterilize operating rooms, administer and monitor anesthesia, and assist during procedures under the guidance of the DVM.
  • Treatments: Administer medications and vaccines under the supervision and guidance of the DVM, and specialized wound or bandage care as directed.
  • Client Communication: Educate pet owners on home care, nutrition, and post-operative instructions.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Animal Health Technician / Veterinary Technician program, and in good standing with the provincial regulatory association (if applicable).
  • Credentialing: Passing national or regional board exams, such as the VTNE, and registering with local professional associations (like an RVT) is a bonus but is not required.
  • Experience Level: Open to both experienced technicians and enthusiastic new graduates!
  • Soft Skills: Compassion and patience with stressed animals, strong verbal communication, ability to adapt to challenges, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for teamwork.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods of time, able to life 25 kg.
