National Veterinary Associates offers an externship at White Oaks West Animal Hospital in Manitoba, Canada, providing veterinary students hands-on clinical experience. Students will work closely with Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform exams, and assist in surgeries. The externship lasts from two to eight weeks and includes a travel/living expense stipend of $1,500. Descripción del empleo

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all have some things in common: an environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.

Students will work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences at White Oaks West Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

• Three exam rooms, two treatment rooms, and a surgical suite
• 20 computer stations including one in each exam room
• Digital dental x-rays and a dental suite
• Wet table and new surgery table
• Class 4 therapeutic laser
• Mobile isoflurane anesthesia machines
• Full Idexx Suite, Idexx referral lab, and Idexx DR Digital x‑ray system
• Services include nutritional counseling, wellness exams, dental care, spay and neuters, and much more
• Avimark management software

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for White Oaks West Animal Hospital is $1,500.
