VCA Canada Care Centre Animal Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, Canada is welcoming another Residency trained or Board-certified Criticalist ( contract , full-time) to join other Criticalists on our specialty health care team to take over for a maternity leave.

Our Critical Care Department is a 7‑day a week service, run full time by our Criticalists. Our Critical Care Department is a busy and growing service that works closely with both the ER and specialty services. The candidate’s responsibilities will include further advancement of the Critical Care department, primary management of critical in‑patients and ER triages, support and mentorship of the Emergency department, and teaching and mentoring the interns and support staff.

C.A.R.E. is a 24‑hour emergency and referral specialty hospital, which operates out of a 26,000 square foot facility in Calgary. The hospital has recently undergone a complete update and expansion to facilitate the ever‑growing caseload and expanding specialty services, including the design of a new, state‑of‑the‑art ICU with updated equipment for the Critical Care Service. The specialties include: Critical Care (4.5), Oncology (1), Neurology (1), Dermatology (1), Dentistry (1), Internal Medicine (2), Ophthalmology (1), Surgery (3), Radiology (1), and Anesthesia (1).

As our ideal Candidate, you have:
  • A valid DVM degree or equivalent, enabling practice in Canada
  • Candidates must be board-certified (AVCECC or ECVECC) or residency trained (and eligible to sit for board examination) in Critical Care.
  • License in Alberta or eligibility to be licensed with the ABVMA.
  • Strong leadership skills combined with a positive team player attitude to enable our teams to flourish
  • Excellent diagnostic and critical care skills

  • Strong organizational skills which allow you to stay focused and work under pressure
