As a member of the military, Vehicle Technicians maintain, repair, and overhaul land vehicles and related equipment to keep them in top condition. Vehicle Technicians belong to the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
Vehicle Technicians experience unique challenges working in various environments, including bases and stations across Canada and deployed overseas. Work settings may include workshops, outdoor environments, or temporary accommodations.
The minimum education requirement is the completion of Grade 10 or Secondary 4 in Quebec, including Grade 10 Math and Science or their equivalents. Candidates with college diplomas may be directly placed into on-the-job training after basic training. Foreign education may be accepted.
Initial training includes Basic Military Qualification, driver training at Canadian Forces Logistic Training Centre, and technical training at the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers School, covering engines, automotive systems, tools, and vehicle operation.
Opportunities for specialized and advanced training include courses in terrain vehicle maintenance, engineering, recovery vehicles, and armored vehicles, among others.
Available for the Primary Reserve, allowing members to serve part-time while pursuing civilian careers or education, with pay and benefits comparable to full-time service.
