Alberta Health Services EMS Edmonton Zone is seeking a casual Vehicle Equipment Supplies Service Technician (VESST) at the EDM NW EMS and Pylypow Stations. Shifts include day, evening, and night with 12-hour rotations.

You will support fleet maintenance, inspect and repair equipment, and coordinate with vendors to ensure compliance with APH standards. Responsibilities may include direct patient contact and disaster response as needed, with requirements such as the F.A.R.E.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) approved program.
  • Active registration with the ACP.
  • Current BCLS-HCP.

This posting is for casual Vehicle Equipment Supplies Service Technician (VESST) at the EDM NW EMS and Pylypow Stations. There are shift options from 8.4 -12 hours. Our staff works day, evening, and night shifts.

Description

As a Vehicle Equipment Supplies Service Technician (VESST) with ALTA Paramedic Health (APH), you will assist with daily fleet maintenance activities and coordinate the movement of vehicles to and from vendors. You will ensure that spare vehicles are clean, fully equipped and supplied as required in accordance with APH inventory standards and regulations. In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection and repair of equipment (e.g. power cots, power loads, suction units). You will prioritize, schedule, and complete vehicle and medical equipment inspections, and engage with approved vendors as required. As a VESST, you may also be required to assist with direct patient contact and support medical care, as well as respond to disasters or large scale incidents within Alberta as needed. This position may require extensive standing, twisting and other physical demands to perform job duties. Alberta Health Services EMS requires the proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization for all applicants external to AHS or internal to AHS, who do not already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP and Community Paramedic). Your F.A.R.E. test must be completed within 6 months of the date of your application. Alberta Health Services EMS may verify results with Lifemark to ensure the candidate has successfully completed the test. Required Qualifications
  • Completion of an Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) approved program.

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Must hold a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence with no more than six (6) demerits.
  • Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, verified by a certificate from Lifemark, is required for all applicants who do not currently hold a clinical position within ALTA Paramedic Health (APH) (including VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP, and Community Paramedic roles).

Additional Required Qualifications
  • Candidate may be required to travel, including overnight travel out of town.
  • Candidate must be able to be around emergency situations with sick or injured patients and must be able to treat them.
  • Candidate must be able to frequently lift heavy items.
  • Candidate will be around Emergency rooms in Hospitals and exposed to bodily fluids from Trauma.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a strong computer literacy, mechanical background, warehouse and supply chain management experience, and vehicle detailing experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidate with minimum 6 months’ experience using and managing the Fleet Software, Holman, Teams and FEMS.
