The Digitization and Repository Services unit in Libraries & Cultural Resources at The University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, invites applications for a Digital Preservation Technician. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Manager, Digitization and Repository Services, the Digital Preservation Technician works in a team environment undergoing ongoing change. Digital objects need to be properly preserved for future use. The Technician will participate in designing, developing, and implementing the digital preservation system and processes. The impact of errors is high. Projects involve a high volume of work, numerous deadlines, and complex technical decision-making. A high level of concentration, resourcefulness, and creativity is required. Work is primarily during normal Monday-Friday business hours. Strong technical skills are essential.
In collaboration with the digital preservation system implementation team and the EMI project team, the Technician will help test and configure a new digital preservation system. Using this system, the Technician will ingest, process, and retrieve EMI digital assets. The Technician will improve existing workflows and develop new workflows as needed. The position involves applying specialized skills to oversee and report on the active preservation of digital assets.
