Job description

Cova builds innovative software solutions for cannabis retail. Our award‑winning point‑of‑sale platform is #1 in North America, powering over 2,000 stores from coast to coast and earning a reputation as one of the most trusted brands in cannabis technology. Reliability and integrity are paramount in our mission to help cannabis retailers reach their full potential. With that conviction and your help, we will continue to push the industry forward and establish Cova as a one‑stop shop for cannabis retailers looking for the best software to grow their business. Let’s shape the next generation of cannabis retailers together and own it.

About the Team:

Our Cova Product team is dedicated to building exceptional software experiences that empower cannabis retailers to thrive. The Product team works closely with the Development team and collaborates cross‑functionally with other departments to bring innovative solutions to life. As a UI/UX Designer on this team, you’ll play a key role in shaping intuitive and reliable products that set the standard in cannabis retail technology.

About the Role:

Reporting to the VP of Product, as a UI/UX Designer you create designs that enhance our user experience with digital products and services, ensuring interfaces are intuitive, visually appealing, and user‑friendly. By integrating visual design, information architecture, and user psychology, you optimize usability, accessibility, and visual hierarchy. Collaborating with cross‑functional teams you align designs with Cova’s product goals and objectives, iterating based on user feedback to continuously improve the overall customer experience.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Design a full range of UI/UX from low‑fidelity sketches to high‑fidelity prototypes.
  • Diagram user flows to capture the complete experience and communicate it effectively.
  • Interview users and obtain input from various sources, synthesize findings, and translate them into client‑focused solutions.
  • Create multiple design iterations to evaluate and refine ideas collaboratively.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Developers to build and ship solutions.
  • Contribute to the Cova design system for quick development while ensuring consistency.
  • Advocate for end users and encourage empathy across the team.
  • Actively seek feedback at every stage.

This role may be a great fit for you if you have a proven ability to balance idealistic designs with practical shipping requirements and are committed to continuous improvement in both your design career and craft!

Compensation Range:

$90‑$110K CAD Annually

What We’re Looking For:
  • 3+ years’ experience designing software across multiple products and platforms (web, Android/iOS), including various screen sizes.
  • Exceptional communicator in verbal, written, and diagrammatic forms, able to present designs and rationale clearly to peers, clients, leadership, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent listener engaged and focused in meetings longer than others; this skill is often more important than communication.
  • Impressive portfolio and experience designing shipped software. Prepared to showcase your work in interviews.
  • Degree, diploma, certification in UX/UI design or related field, or equivalent real‑world experience.
  • Proficient in industry‑standard design and collaboration tools, especially Figma, and quick to adapt to new technologies.
  • Experience in an Agile development environment.
  • Experience designing B2B software.
  • Basic knowledge of front‑end development languages, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
What Really Matters:
  • Strongly self‑motivated with a drive to succeed.
  • Resourceful and innovative, thriving in an environment with little to no supervision.
  • Caring about our clients and their customers.
  • Being able to collaborate with others to ensure that we all succeed together.
What We Offer:
  • Competitive starting salary.
  • Comprehensive benefits package for you and your entire family.
  • Flexible hybrid working environment and generous vacation and sick time policies.
  • Maternity, adoption, and paternity leave salary top‑ups as well as ten “New Baby Days” for all parents welcoming a new child into their life.
  • Annual “Cultural Day” off to celebrate a day of religious or cultural significance.
  • Up to 6 days of paid time off annually for volunteering or personal learning.
  • Seven‑week sabbatical after every seven years of employment.
