Job summary

District of Lake Country is seeking a permanent full-time Utility Operator in Lake Country, BC. The role focuses on safe, efficient operation of District water systems, including pumping, treatment facilities, and related infrastructure.

Qualifications include one year toward a water engineering technology diploma, at least one year in water distribution or waterworks construction, EOCP certification eligibility, BC Driver's License, and chlorine handling credentials or ability to obtain.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience in water distribution or waterworks construction.
  • Eligibility to obtain Water Operator EOCP certification.
  • Chlorine Handlers Certificate (BCWAA) or qualifies to obtain.
  • Valid British Columbia Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain water distribution systems for safe, reliable supply.
  • Perform construction, repair, and maintenance of waterworks infrastructure and appurtenances.
  • Coordinate with other District departments as required.

About The Opportunity

The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Utility Operator (40 hours per week) based in Lake Country, BC. Reporting to the Utilities Manager, the Utility Operator is responsible for performing utility operations relating to the safe and efficient operation of District Water Systems. Utility operations include construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of water supply and distribution systems, pump, pressure regulation, pressure release, air and/or vacuum valves, fire hydrants, treatment facilities, hydro plant, intake structures, dams, reservoirs, and appurtenances. The incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and requires a high degree of technical problem solving and good interpersonal and communication skills. Utility Operators may also perform other related duties working with other District departments as required.

More About You

To qualify for this role, you must have one year towards a diploma in water engineering technology or similar; a minimum of one year of experience in water distribution or waterworks construction, preferably in a local government utility setting; eligibility to obtain Water Operator EOCP certification; Chlorine Handlers Certificate (BCWAA) or qualifies to obtain; and a valid British Columbia Driver's License.

  • The hourly rate of pay for this unionized position will be based on the level of qualifications in EOCP and years of experience but will start at a competitive salary of $37.69 per hour (2026 wage rate);
