Job summary

The City of Burlington is hiring a Coordinator, Urban Forestry on a fixed-term contract up to 12 months. You will provide information on tree by-laws, guide applicants through the tree permit process, and review supporting documents. The role requires an ISA Arborist designation (within 1 year) and 2–4 years of urban forestry experience.

You will work in a hybrid model with core duties at the Operations Centre and City Hall, contributing to standards, data reporting, and program development.

Qualifications

• Requires university degree or college diploma in arboriculture, forestry, landscape architecture, environmental sciences or related field.
• ISA Certified Arborist designation required or able to obtain within 1 year; TRAQ is an asset.
• 2–4 years in urban forestry or related field; strong knowledge of urban forestry practices and by-laws.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact for Forest Protection inquiries (phone, email, in person).
• Coordinate tree permit applications with site plans, arborist reports, and protection plans.
• Manage communications and follow-ups to ensure complete submissions.
• Review permit files, generate task lists, and support staff scheduling.
• Assist in developing standards and online content for urban forestry.
• Analyze permit data and assist with program evaluation and policy development.
