Job summary

Flexjet is seeking Upholstery Technicians to craft and refurbish aircraft seating and interior components with high-grade leather materials. You will follow blueprints, cut and assemble fabrics, and ensure safety and quality in every finish, contributing to bespoke cabin interiors for a premier fleet.

Candidates should have a strong upholstery background, ideally in aviation, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team in a full-time setting with standard weekday hours.

Qualifications

  • Secondary school diploma required or college/technical training in related field preferred.
  • Extensive upholstery experience, ideally with seating and leather materials.
  • Experience in aviation-related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, repair, modify and refurbish aircraft seats and interiors to high finish and safety standards.
  • Work with high-grade leather materials from blueprints and drawings.
  • Plan, prepare and cut materials to patterns for stitching and fitting to requirements.
  • Ensure assembly from on-site fabrication to finished components meets specifications.

Job description

Flexjet, an award-winning organization, is looking to add talented Upholstery Technicians to the team! These technicians will work with beautiful, high-quality fabric and leather to curate bespoke interiors for Flexjet's fleet of aircraft.

Position Summary

Upholstery Technicians are expected to work safely and efficiently at all times. Candidates should have general knowledge of aircraft cabinets and components, including repairing, modifying, refurbishing, and fabricating aircraft seating and interior components including stripping and re-covering existing interior coverings.

Essential Job Functions
  • Upholstery Technicians fabricate, repair, modify, and refurbish aircraft seats, divans, sidewalls and associated components, including the re-upholstery of panels, liners and sidewalls, to high degrees of finish quality and structural safety.
  • Incumbents must demonstrate the ability to work with high-grade leather materials from blueprints, drawings and other illustrations or written work instructions.
  • Technicians must plan, prepare and cut materials to standardized patterns for stitching and fitting to customer and engineered requirements.
Upholstery Technicians Must Demonstrate Competency In The Following Accountabilities
  • Possess all the various skills needed to build and break down a cabin seat.
  • This job requires a high attention to detail not only for the purposes of appearance and ergonomics, but also for safety and structural integrity purposes
  • May also measure, cut and prepare foam materials used in the upholstery process.
  • Familiar with breakdown, building up and troubleshooting of aircraft seats and interior components.
  • Ability to strip and recover seats and their components.
  • Ability to match, adhere and fasten together materials or components using adhesives.Ability to fit, build-up, assemble and finish seating and other upholstered components from materials fabricated and manufactured onsite.
  • Possess the ability to cover large monuments such as headliners and sidewalls
  • Perform work in a productive, diligent, careful and safe manner.
  • Complete any special projects or other tasks as required or assigned. May be assigned to other areas of operations, based on business or customer requirements.
  • Works in compliance with all Administrative, Health & Safety policies and procedures as per legislative requirements and as outlined in Company policies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Secondary school diploma required and/or completion of College/CEGEP/technical training in a related field preferred.
  • Applicants must have extensive upholstery experience, ideally working with seating and leather materials.
  • Experience in an aviation-related field is preferred.
Required Skills And Abilities
  • The skill to operate industrial, single, multi-needle sewing machines, sergers, overlocks, piping or binding machines.
  • Must be skilled at operating machines to join sections of seating material (typically, leather) as well as other components into finished products used within aircraft interiors.
  • Candidates must be able to understand and work from blueprints as well as other written instructions and design specifications.
  • Strong mathematical knowledge is required, as is the ability to make accurate measurements and finish materials to a high level of quality and precision.
  • Excellent planning, organization and coordination skills.
  • Excellent judgment with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and follow direction with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and written.
  • Ability to trouble‑shoot and problem solve.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Self-motivated and able to maintain a rapid pace.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Compensation

Hourly: $25.00-$31.23/Hr

We offer competitive compensation including 6% RRSP matching, 10% deferred compensation, second-shift premium, and Health/Medical/Dental/Life benefits to qualified and highly motivated candidates.

Working Hours

This is a full-time (FT) position and hours of work or shift patterns may change due to business operational needs. Flexibility is required and at present, the standard hours of work are 7am-4pm, Monday to Friday.

Work Conditions
  • Regular periods during which physical effort is required, e.g., walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
  • Exposure to factors such as temperature variations/extremes, fumes, moving machinery, humidity, and materials which can cause periods of discomfort.
  • Work involves repetitive, hands-on tasks requiring sustained physical effort and manual dexterity.
  • Able to lift and transport up to 40 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Able to wear protective equipment for extended periods of time including particle masks, goggles, assorted gloves, head bonnets, and disposable protective suits.
  • Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses at a time, where stimuli are changing.
  • Occasional direct and indirect pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.
