A healthcare organization in Calgary is seeking a Unit Clerk who will facilitate communication between health professionals and manage patient records. The ideal candidate has completion of Grade 12, accredited Unit Clerk training, and experience in an acute settings. Strong computer skills and organizational abilities are essential. This position offers a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends, with a salary range of $26.07 to $31.68 per hour.
The Unit Clerk role is essential to the smooth and efficient operation of the nursing unit. As initial contact person, the Unit Clerk is instrumental in facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients and families, and in maintaining confidentiality of patient information. Under limited supervision, the Unit Clerk is responsible for performing clerical and receptionist duties for the nursing unit as well as maintaining an efficient work environment.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
As required.
Successful completion of Medical Terminology Course, 3 yrs experience in an acute surgical setting desired. Proficient computer skills essential with advanced knowledge of MS applications and Connect Care. Demonstrated time management and organizational skills, ability to prioritize work and cope with frequent interruptions in a demanding environment. Positive and effective and communication skills. De-escalation skill set an asset. Ability to take initiative, perform duties accurately.
