Your Opportunity

The purpose of the Unit Clerk is to facilitate the coordination of activity and information on the nursing unit in order that the needs of the client are met in an effective manner. This activity and information may be related to clients, families, and staff. The Unit Clerk is required to perform complex and specialized clerical duties that require knowledge of the department, organization, and public relations. Performing reception duties for the public, clients, staff, physicians, other disciplines and departments. Includes answering telephones, call bells, and initiating action in a team environment. Facilitating communication systems on the nursing unit by communicating information in a timely and accurate manner. This includes, but it is not limited to, communication of new admissions and physician orders. Maintaining confidentiality of client records and information at all times in accordance with the procedures for release of information and FOIP. Communication of medical & client care orders. Coordinating and communicating client tests, treatments and placement with both internal and external departments. Managing a diverse workload in a timely manner while working with frequent interruptions.

Description

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications

Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent education and experience. Successful completion of a recognized Unit Clerk Course. Medical Terminology Course would be an asset. Recent Unit Clerk experience or recent experience performing similar duties preferably in the Health Care field. Proficiency and accurate computer skills including data entry and a specific working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel).
