Job Description

Position Purpose Summary: The role provides service to customers, sorts incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of the Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Responsibilities
  • Operations: Greet and interact with customers and donors in a friendly and courteous manner; meet store sales targets; process cash and debit transactions accurately; handle the loading, sorting, pricing and storage of donations; maintain store opening and closing procedures; support inventory control and merchandising activities; ensure safety and proper store appearance.
  • Health and Safety: Contribute to staff and customer safety by maintaining clear fire exits, cleaning spills, and conducting regular store inspections; comply with OH&S Act and Salvation Army health and safety policies.
  • Relationship Management: Coordinate with the Store Manager, Corps Officer(s), volunteers, staff, guests and vendors to ensure smooth store operations.
  • Managerial/Technical Responsibilities: Report directly to the Store Manager, with no direct reports.
  • Financial and Material Management: Moderate material responsibilities and maintain organizational assets in accordance with established guidelines.
Working Conditions

This is a permanent part‑time position with variable schedules that may include weekdays and/or Saturdays. The job requires standing for long periods, frequent twisting, bending, crouching and reaching, and the ability to lift or move up to 30 pounds. Universal precautions and safety rules must be observed.

Education, Experience & Qualifications
  • Completion of some high school coursework or equivalent education.
  • Cash handling experience is required.
  • Experience in processing or distribution of goods or customer service.
  • Knowledge of lifting guidelines.
  • Computer proficiency and experience working in a computerized environment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral).

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cooperative team.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry up to 29 lbs on a frequent basis.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $15.35 per hour with a maximum of $15.35.
