The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of commercial underwriting, strong portfolio oversight, and experience with LOAs and delegated authority agreements; CIP/FCIP is preferred.

Qualifications

Insight Global is seeking an Underwriting Specialist, MGA Programs to join a leading commercial insurance organization in Vancouver, BC on a full-time basis. This individual will be responsible for managing Sovereign's Western Canada MGA portfolio, serving as the primary MGA representative in the Vancouver market while overseeing profitable growth, portfolio performance, and partner relationships.The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of approximately $30M-$50M in premium across multiple MGA and delegated authority programs. Rather than underwriting every individual risk, this role focuses on portfolio and program management, ensuring MGA partners operate within the parameters of their Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) agreements and Letters of Authority (LOAs). When risks fall outside established underwriting authority, the Underwriting Specialist will provide technical underwriting review and guidance.This position requires a unique blend of technical underwriting expertise, portfolio management, contract oversight, and relationship management. The individual will regularly meet with MGA partners, monitor program performance, identify growth opportunities, review authority agreements, and provide strategic recommendations to improve profitability and long-term program success.The ideal candidate is a seasoned commercial underwriter who enjoys working at both a strategic and operational level. They should be comfortable analyzing portfolio performance, managing delegated authority relationships, reviewing underwriting exceptions, and acting as a trusted advisor to both internal stakeholders and external partners. This role offers the opportunity to play a key role in the continued growth of Sovereign's MGA business across Western Canada while serving as the organization's dedicated MGA presence in Vancouver.

Skills and Requirements

• 10+ years of commercial Property & Casualty or commercial underwriting experience with strong technical underwriting expertise
• Strong portfolio management experience with the ability to monitor profitability, identify growth opportunities, analyze trends, and make strategic recommendations
• Experience working with Letters of Authority (LOAs), delegated authority agreements, contracts, or underwriting governance frameworksExcellent relationship management and business development skills, including experience working directly with MGA partners, brokers, or key external stakeholders
• CIP, FCIP, or equivalent insurance designation preferred
• Experience with specialty lines including Professional Liability, E&O, D&O, Cyber, or Casualty products
• Experience reviewing underwriting referrals or complex risks outside established authority parameters
• Background working in both carrier and MGA environments considered an asset
• Demonstrated success managing profitable commercial insurance portfolios while supporting growth objectives
