As an Underwriter, Special Lines you will be focusing on executing the day-to-day activities as assigned by the Operations Lead and maintaining moderate level of authority to address questions and inquiries from advisors and front-line staff. You will be responsible for team membership and technical underwriting responsibilities which supports the organization’s goals in achieving profitability, client engagement, and co-op experience by providing professional underwriting expertise and support to all our departments while managing risks for our clients and the organization.

How you will create impact:
  • Working with cross functional team daily to resolve outcome-oriented business problems while leveraging information, technical expertise, and inputs from access to the underwriting function
  • Coaching our front-line business partners to enable them to provide appropriate coverage terms and conditions for our clients.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to underwrite policies through a wide variety of communication channels and to provide technical underwriting solutions and coverage information in a fast paced, highly responsive, customer centric environment.
  • Analyzing, evaluating, and negotiating terms and conditions for renewals, new business, and policy changes within their assigned authority.
  • Amending policy coverages, and premiums or canceling policy based on applying underwriting decision-making based on underwriting rules or guidelines or underwriting discretion.
  • Ensuring proper risk classification and rating.
  • Leveraging tools, and technology to understand client history, trends in the market, and risk appetite for different products.
To join our team:
  • You have 2-3 years of experience in Farm or Commercial underwriting.
  • You have completed a post-secondary degree in a related field.
  • You are actively pursuing CIP designation.
  • You have knowledge of relevant products, industry, legal, and regulatory information.
  • You have knowledge of Special Lines policy wordings, endorsements, underwriting manuals, tools and systems.
  • This position primarily works with majority non-francophone groups, and teams located outside of Québec, and requires proficiency in English. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.
