Job summary

Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. is seeking an Underground Service Crew worker for the Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia. FIFO rotation is 14 days on, 14 days off.

You will install, maintain, and repair underground services while adhering to safety and company standards. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you will work on air/water/pump lines, ventilation, communications gear, and associated tasks.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 2–3 years of underground service crew experience preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License (manual transmission an asset).
• Able to work independently and in a team under safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and repair underground services (air/water/pump lines).
• Install cable bolts, grout, plate and tension as required.
• Install and remove communications equipment (Leaky feeder, tele remote).
• Support additional construction tasks and equipment maintenance.
• Follow PPE and site safety rules; maintain equipment and housekeeping.

Job description

The Opportunity:

Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has new exciting opportunities for Underground Service Crew workers at the Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia. Working a FIFO rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-shifts off.

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Underground Service Crew worker is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing all underground services. The incumbent is expected to adhere to and maintain all company standards and perform duties to the highest levels of safe operation.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Demonstrate commitment to adhere to all Mine site safety rules, procedures and regulations, while ensuring the safety of others.
• Install, maintain, and repair all underground services e.g.: air/water/pump lines (using poly piping), messenger line, ventilation bags, temporary electrical cables, submersible pumpsin sumps, pump stations.
• Install grout, plate, and tension of cable bolts.
• Installing and removing communication equipment, ie Leaky feeder, tele remote comms.
• Assist with the construction work; ventilation walls, concrete forming/pouring, pump installations/plumbing.
• Safely use hand tools to undertake certain tasks.
• Practice good general housekeeping, clean and maintain equipment to a high standard.
• Understand and comply with all PPE requirements in work areas
• Other duties may be assigned by your Supervisor, as required

Skills and Experience:

• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalency
• Preferred; 2-3 years of underground experience working as part of a service crew
• Maintain a valid Driver’s License; manual transmission experience an asset
• Perform other related work as assigned for underground development mining
• The ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism and self-motivation is essential
• Proven ability to recognize and follow verbal and written instructions
• Able to manage time, plan and prioritize workload to ensure support task meet mining requirements.
• Must have good radio etiquette and strong communications skills
• Eagerness to learn and grow

Work Conditions

• Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation
• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
• Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
• Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required
• Extreme weather conditions
• Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
