Job summary

Musselwhite Mine in Northwestern Ontario is seeking a Health and Safety Superintendent to oversee and coordinate the Health & Safety department, ensuring training and guidance across all departments including contractors. The role acts as a resource for workplace parties and champions the Internal Responsibility System (IRS).

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will promote safety performance, manage audits, and interact with site leadership.

Qualifications

• Minimum grade 12 completion; technical diploma preferred.
• Good understanding and working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Mines & Mining Plants, surface and underground mine rescue training, WHMIS and Loss Control techniques.
• Accreditation in the Underground Supervisory Common Core and Accredited Safety Auditor.
• 10 years’ experience working in mining operations; 5 years of leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee programs such as Hazard & Risk Recognition and Mitigation, Safety Meetings, Event Reporting and Investigation quality.
• Assist in drafting and reviewing job procedures related to health, safety and security.
• Monitor IRS functioning and suggest improvements.
• Audit health and safety system components for compliance with statutes and policies.
• Report safety and health status to the department manager.
• Advise workers, supervisors and management on technical safety matters.
• Provide statistical reports to management when needed.
• Participate in safety groups and committees.”
