Job summary

Wellington Catholic District School Board is seeking a 100% permanent Unassigned Caretaker. Location varies, assigned by supervisor. Work 8 hours a day, 40 hours weekly with an afternoon shift from 3:30pm to 11:30pm. Starting rate is $26.82 per hour plus a $0.85/hour shift premium.

Responsibilities include cleaning and securing the building, minor repairs, snow clearing, grounds work, waste handling, and reporting maintenance issues. A CRC may be required upon hire.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations and WHMIS.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication.
• Ability to operate computer applications as required.
• Ability to operate the school's HVAC system.
• Hands-on caretaking experience is an asset.
• Previous related experience in an institutional setting is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Under the direction of the Caretaker-in-charge, the Unassigned Staff Caretaker will be responsible for:

Cleaning all areas of the school building on a daily basis, as well as clearing ice and snow, performing minor repairs and grounds work, handling garbage, securing the building, reporting maintenance issues, interaction with Community Use groups as required, handling alarm and emergency situations while on shift, and other duties as assigned by the Caretaker-in-Charge.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• A Grade 12 Secondary School diploma, or equivalent
• A thorough understanding of both the Health and Safety Regulations and the W.H.I.M.S. Program
• Excellent Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of computer applications as required by the position
• Ability to operate the school’s computerized HVAC system
• Good eye/hand coordination to safely operate equipment and small tools
• Previous related experience
• Practical hands on knowledge of caretaking duties in an institutional environment is an asset
