Overview
Summary: This position produces two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by physicians in diagnosis of disease and study of malfunction of organs. Technologist is registered in two different areas.
Responsibilities
- Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.
- Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure that is going to be performed; make changes in the billing code/exam title as needed. Record all signs and symptoms for the exam.
- Selects equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination.
- Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field, and other specifications of test.
- Keeps exam data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of exam results.
- Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
- Operates equipment to produce images of internal organs and records diagnostic data in PAC system. This provides permanent record of examination.
- Make sure to present any prior studies along with current studies to radiologist for diagnostic assessment.
- Stock/Order supplies, make patient reminder calls, check ultrasound machine daily for any problems, and any other duties that may be assigned to you daily.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two or more registries through the ARDMS (RDMS)
- Current CPR certification.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a clinic or hospital setting
- Knowledge of ultrasound procedures and protocols.
- Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies including safety, privacy and HIPAA regulations
- Knowledge of quality care standards for ultrasound.
- Knowledge of operating computer and accessing applicable RIS/PACS programs.
- Skill in production of sonograms meeting physician expectations.
- Skill in using computer network system competently to process patient and department information.
- Skill in performing quality exams and exercising compassion with patients.
- Skill in completing job in a timely manner.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone to establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians and other staff.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, and management.
