Job description
Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging, the Ultrasonographer provides services to the patients of the Diagnostic Imaging Department. This position proficiently scans, interprets, and produces quality images which aid the Radiologist in the accurate and timely diagnosis of patients. The position acts as a resource to the nurses in the Community Health Centers and for Qikiqtani General Hospital’s Obstetrical Team by attending weekly antenatal clinic rounds.

Compensation and Benefits

For full‑time and permanent positions, recruitment bonuses include:

  • $3,000 on start date
  • $3,000 at 6 months of service
  • $5,000 at 1 year of service
  • $7,000 at 2 years of service

As an Indeterminate or Job Share Ultrasonographer you will earn a Tier One: $10/hour premium allowance.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize ultrasound equipment to independently produce and interpret high quality sonographic images as required by the off‑site Radiologist.
  • Perform exams in accordance with policies and procedures developed by the Qikiqtani General Hospital, Sonography Canada, and the reporting Radiologist.
  • Provide Ultrasonography on‑site and may provide travelling services to support patient care.
  • Act as a resource to nurses in Community Health Centers and to Qikiqtani General Hospital’s Obstetrical Team.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an accredited sonography program and current registration with Sonography Canada.
  • Two (2) years of sonography experience.
  • Continuing education: 40 credits of continuing sonography education and/or relevant practice education credits every three years.
  • Annual certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
  • Fluency in one or more of Nunavut’s official languages (Inuktut, English, French). Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment are considered assets.
