The Government of Nunavut is hiring eligible students year-round in our new Tuglirijavut Student Employment Program! Employment opportunities are open to Tuglirijavut students meeting the eligibility requirements listed below.

The Government of Nunavut recognizes that Nunavut Inuit and Non-Inuit students, including recent graduates are keen to practice and strengthen their skills and explore potential career paths. The Tuglirijavut program — the Government of Nunavut’s new year-round student employment equity program — acknowledges that students are Tuglirijavut, “our next ones,” the future employees and leaders of the GN. By applying to participate in the Tuglirijavut Student Employment program, you will be considered for employment/training opportunities and learn from helpful mentors while earning a competitive salary! Participating will also help you evaluate career options within the public service, help you decide on educational paths to pursue or enrich your current academic studies.

There is no application deadline for students, but we encourage students looking for summer employment to apply as soon as possible.

To qualify as a Tuglirijavut student you must have either:
  • completed grade 10 or 11 and be enrolled in a full‑time high‑school program for the following term/semester; or,
  • have graduated from high school in the previous semester, or;
  • be enrolled/accepted in a post‑secondary program with a recognized Canadian college, university, or institute for the previous or following term/semester; or,
  • have completed/graduated from a post‑secondary program in the current academic year.
Non‑Inuit Students Must
  • currently reside in Nunavut or at least resided in Nunavut before becoming a full‑time high‑school or post‑secondary student at a recognized Canadian educational institution outside of Nunavut, and;
  • have a valid Nunavut health care card and;
  • not be eligible for financial assistance from another province or territory.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages will be deemed an asset or a requirement depending on the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment are considered assets.

  • The Government of Nunavut is committed to creating a representative workforce; therefore, priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit students who self‑identify as being enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy.
  • Some positions may require a criminal record check. Possession of a criminal record may not disqualify students from being considered. An assessment of the criminal record will be measured against the scope and duties of the position. This is only a requirement for positions that require a satisfactory criminal record check.
