Job summary

Norsom Transportation Inc. in Edmonton is seeking a full-time truck driver to load and unload goods and operate straight or articulated trucks for transporting goods and materials.

You will oversee vehicle condition, perform inspections, and relay information to central dispatch. The role requires at least two years of trucking experience, a Class 1 license, MELT Alberta qualification, and adherence to safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Completion of secondary school is required.
• Two years truck driving experience required.
• Class 1 license or equivalent Canadian international license required.
• Qualified to pass MELT course in Alberta.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload goods.
• Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
• Oversee vehicle condition; inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
• Perform brake adjustments and vehicle inspections (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip).
• Perform preventive maintenance.
• Receive and relay information to central dispatch and record cargo data, hours of service, distance traveled and fuel consumption.
• Tarp cargo and ensure safety and security of cargo; transport and handle dangerous goods.

Job Description

Load and unload goods

Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials

Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment

Perform brake adjustments

Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle

Perform preventive maintenance

Receive and relay information to central dispatch

Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption

Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo

Transport and handle dangerous goods

Requirements

Education

Completion of secondary school is required.

Experience

At least two years of experience as a truck driver is required.

Class 1 driver’s license or an equivalent international commercial driver’s license that meets Canadian licensing standards is required.

Being qualified to pass the MELT course in Alberta.

Salary

$37.50 hourly. 40 to 45 hours per week.

Flexibility in the schedule is required. The work schedule consists of 8 to 10 hours per day, Monday to Sunday (variable depending on workload). There are two shifts: the day shift from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and the night shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Weekend work may be required based on delivery schedules. Holiday work may also be necessary if operationally required.
