Responsibilities

  • Evaluate completed work and seek approval where required.
  • Occasionally engage in road calls and emergency services.

Position

Truck & Coach Mechanic – Thunder Bay, Ontario

As a Mechanic with First Student, you will help maintain and repair school buses to ensure vehicle readiness & safety.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and perform accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under minimal supervision, including brakes, engine tune‑ups, suspensions, drive trains, and transmission repairs.
  • Remove and reinstall mechanical components with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in the 90‑day preventive maintenance inspection program, safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections.
  • Issue semiannual and annual MTO certificates using the Drive On program.
  • Ensure work orders are completed properly and accurately using individual tablets; maintain records of all maintenance work completed, including parts and supplies used.
  • Evaluate completed work and seek approval where required.
  • Occasionally engage in road calls and emergency services as necessary.
  • Adhere to First Student standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other maintenance responsibilities as requested or required.
  • Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program; training, testing, and bonuses provided.
Qualifications
  • Must have a 310T Mechanic license.

  • Must have an appropriate mechanic’s tool set.
  • Advanced problem‑solving ability.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
