Job description
Overview

Join one of the world’s leading suppliers of wind power solutions, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, as a Traveling Troubleshooting Technician. This position is responsible for performing and reporting on various troubleshooting tasks, turbine inspections, and component repairs, and providing troubleshooting support on all components associated with the wind turbine. 95% travel from site to site is required. The Traveling Troubleshooting Technician will interface with clients and work with small crews on a regular basis. They are expected to be able to lead and manage their tasks with minimal supervision. Job sites include primarily Canada and potential for US. Performs mainly pre-defined, technical tasks (for example, basic engineering and maintenance jobs) and work packages on-site. Coordinates and accomplishes defined service operations and/or resolves product issues for customers\' equipment. Adheres to defined processes and applicable regulations. Relocation will not be offered for this role.

How You’ll Make An Impact
  • Read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Read and comprehend procedures.
  • Travel to locations in the U.S. and/or Canada with no restrictions.
  • Inspect drivetrain components (main shaft + bearings, gearbox + gears + bearings).
  • Work in confined/enclosed spaces and be comfortable with heights.
  • Assist in troubleshooting of drivetrain-related issues (pumps, sensors, brakes, cooling unit, filters, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to describe complex damages, participate in the preparation of inspection and repair reports, and follow up to final resolution.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and electrical testing equipment for turbines.
  • Test electrical components and systems, as well as mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform maintenance on wind turbine equipment including troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic malfunctions. Replace worn or malfunctioning components.
What You Bring
  • Technician must be able to work within the maximum safety guidelines using personal protective equipment.
  • Must meet body weight restrictions of 265 pounds or less as required by the safety regulations.
  • Must pass a physical administered by a medical practitioner to ensure ability to safely perform the job functions and meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience in a mechanical, electrical or industrial field.
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, diagnostic tools.
  • Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time - up to 95%.
  • Perform other duties – Safe, team-oriented work habits are essential.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass pre-hire background drug screening.
  • Qualified applicants must be legally authorized for employment in Canada. Qualified applicants will not require employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future for employment in Canada.
  • Senvion, SGRE Direct Drive (D3), SG4X 145 experience a plus.
  • Certification from a Renewable Energy or Wind Technical Program is a plus.
  • Hands-on work experience as a Wind Technician on a Wind Farm is preferred.
  • Relevant work experience in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, maintenance/troubleshooting in a military, industrial or automotive industry is preferred.
