Job summary

Covenant House Vancouver seeks a dedicated youth worker to provide safe, affordable housing and ongoing support for youth aged 16–24. You will assess immediate needs, connect them with resources, and collaborate with staff to develop action plans that enable progress toward independent living.

Responsibilities include crisis response, life skills coaching, case file management, and coordinating with external supports, all within a trauma-informed framework.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Familiar with challenges facing youth experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
• Ability to work with youth experiencing complex mental health challenges.
• Familiarity with substance misuse.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries with youth.
• Basic computer skills.
• Able to lift up to 25 lbs and kneel/squat as needed.

Responsibilities

• Greet and welcome youth accessing CHV services, assess needs, provide resources (food, clothing, transportation).
• Develop and maintain relationships with at-risk youth aged 16–24.
• Introduce services at program entry, orient new youth, complete intake/admission.
• Collaborate with staff to help youth set attainable short- and long-term goals and action plans.
• Assist youth with accessing external community supports and accompany them when needed.
• Support youth with Life Skills (cooking, money management, self-care, goal setting).
• Respond to emergencies or trauma-related concerns using trauma-informed practice; provide crisis intervention including overdose response and Naloxone training.
