The Transportation Manager contributes to the success of Univar Solutions by acting as the primary Transportation leader within the Western Canada Region, consisting of Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.

The Transportation Manager is responsible for direct leadership of a team of transportation planners and collaborates with the Operations Managers, Purchasing Managers and Commercial Leadership within each district.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Lead daily operations of the transportation department, including scheduling, dispatching, and routing
  • Lead the transportation team in developing solutions to meet customer needs and build long-term carrier and customer partnership
  • Develop and implement strategies for on-time delivery performance for dedicated carriers and common carriers.
  • Negotiate carrier rates with common carriers to mitigate inflation and implement cost saving projects.
  • Ensure carrier execution against both inbound and outbound transportation requirements
  • Develop and implement supply chain models for improvement of logistics and transportation network
  • Identify opportunity lanes for improved service, capacity and/or rates with external carriers.
  • Ensure accurate freight agreements for efficient processing of carrier invoicing and freight cost accounting for common carriers
  • Maintain outbound rate cards to optimize cost recovery
  • Collaborate with carriers to resolve service challenges within Company policy
  • Develop expert knowledge of Transportation Management System (TMS) and train users on system functionality.
  • Lead transportation team with to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Responsible for key performance indicators, contributing to EBITDA and WC through employee performance
  • Develop and drive continual improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing, Operations and Product Management to remove barriers to customer satisfaction and improve on time delivery.
  • Train and coach new and existing employees in standard policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Other duties as required
WHAT YOU WILL REQUIRE:
  • University degree or College diploma with specialized training in a related field (i.e. transportation)
  • Must have 5-7 years of transportation experience in a leadership capacity
  • Must have a strong organizational aptitude, be detailed oriented and have excellent time management skills
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Must be a team player who is customer-oriented and self-motivated with a proven ability to interface confidently with internal and external stakeholders
  • Must have strong computer skills using Microsoft office suite including Outlook, Excel and Word
