Job summary

Stantec in Ottawa, ON is seeking a seasoned transportation engineer to design municipal roadways, provincial highways, transit facilities and active transportation projects. You will support project managers on large multi-disciplinary transportation assignments and contribute to successful client outcomes. The role requires a B.A.Sc.

or B.Eng. in Civil/Structural Engineering, at least six years in transportation design, and a P.Eng designation or path to registration.

Qualifications

  • B.A.Sc. or B.Eng. degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum 6 years of transportation design engineering experience with local consulting exposure.
  • P.Eng designation or ability to register.
  • Typical office environment; fieldwork may expose you to the elements.

Responsibilities

  • Design integrated municipal roadway, provincial highway, transit facilities and active transportation projects.
  • Assist project managers in delivering large multi-disciplinary transportation projects.
  • Project management of small to medium-sized transportation projects during planning, design and contract administration.
  • Lead projects or technical components from planning through design and construction support.
  • Plan, organize and control project budgets and schedules.
  • Prepare proposals, RFPs, tenders, budgets, cash flows and preliminary schedules.
  • Provide direction to engineering staff in designs, drawings, specs, and cost estimates.
  • Prepare correspondence, engineering reports and meeting minutes.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide Quality Management reviews.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Design integrated municipal roadway, provincial highway, transit facilities, and active transportation facilities projects for clients in the province and for other major municipalities in the province
  • Assist project managers in delivering large multi-disciplinary transportation projects to our clients
  • Project management of small to medium-sized transportation projects during planning, design, and contract administration phases including financial performances.
  • Lead projects or technical components of projects from planning through design and technical support during construction.
  • Plan, organize and control project budgets and schedules.
  • Work with the PM in the drafting and issuance of project proposals, RFP's, tenders, budgets, cash flows, and preliminary schedules
  • Provide direction to engineering staff in the preparation of designs, design drawings, contract documents, engineering specifications, and cost estimates for municipal road and highway engineering work
  • Prepare correspondence, engineering reports, proposals, expressions of interest, specifications and meeting minutes
  • Ability to lead a team of professionals on projects, as well as liaise with clients and sub-consultants
  • Provide project guidance and mentoring for junior staff
  • Provide Quality Management reviews by ensuring corporate policies are followed and documented
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Knowledge of applicable design standards
  • Outstanding communication, documentation, and proposal writing skills
  • Past experience in contract administration is an asset
Education and Experience
  • B.A.Sc. or B.Eng. degree in Civil/Structural Engineering program
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in the transportation design engineering field preferably with local experience in the consulting industry
  • P.Eng designation or ability to register Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range
  • Locations in Lower Mainland -- BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$114,600.00 - $164,600.00 Annually
