Research Assistantship

The Research Assistantship is an appointment under the Yukon First Nation Participation Plan, Government of Yukon’s First Nations Procurement Policy. Under the supervision of the consulting firm retained by the government to conduct the research project, the Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the project team in a variety of administrative and non-administrative tasks which may include compiling, reviewing and summarizing online information, scholarly literature, data entry and processing, creation and handling of documents in MS word, Excel, Power Point, and other administrative duties in support of the research activities.

Responsibilities
  • Collect, summarize, and organize research materials and data.
  • Compile and summarize scholarly literature; review and develop notes on current research; develop and maintain bibliographies.
  • Search for documents using online search engines, and government databases.
  • Help obtain, read, and take notes on project meetings, transcripts, and municipal documents.
  • Search and read media coverage and texts (in English); make notes and summaries.
  • Communicate findings and discuss research tasks with other members of the team.
  • Prepares figures and diagrams for presentations and publications.

  • Able to organize large amounts of research material.

Work Hours & Benefits

Time commitment: 10 hrs. / week for 4 weeks approximately

Compensation: $25 / hour

Start date: As soon as possible, until positioned is filled

Eligibility

The candidate must be identified as a Yukon First Nations People in accordance with the Yukon First Nation Participation Plan, Government of Yukon’s First Nations Procurement Policy

Education and Experience Requirements
  • University or College degree in relevant field.
  • One year of relevant work experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel, including basic functions and formulas.
