Job summary

CIMA+ is seeking a Transmission Lines Engineer to join its Energy & Resources team in Canada. The role is hybrid (2 days in the office) and can be based anywhere in Canada. You will design overhead line structures, develop design packages, and support large infrastructure projects with senior leadership.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in transmission projects, a PE license in BC or another province, and strong CAD/analysis software proficiency, plus excellent English communication.

Qualifications

• University degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering
• 5+ years of experience in Transmission projects
• Registered with a Professional Engineering association in BC or another Canadian province
• Proficient in design/analysis software and CAD systems; MS Office
• Excellent communication abilities in English

Responsibilities

• Develop safe engineering solutions for medium complexity utilities projects.
• Assist project/operations management in safety, cost, quality, and schedule targets.
• Resolve technical and unusual design/field problems via independent studies and judgment.
• Contribute to engineering practices by developing standards and providing guidance to engineers.
• Deliver signed and sealed engineering deliverables as Professional of Record.
• Provide technical assistance, construction support, and field reviews.
• Design overhead line structures for voltages from 60kV to 500kV in a utility setting.
• Prepare project documentation: reports, specifications, estimates, design basis, and test plans.
• Develop design work packages with scope, duration, and effort estimates.

The role is hybrid (2 days a week in the office) and can be based anywhere in Canada.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop safe engineering solutions through design, problem analysis, and interpreting specifications for medium complexity utilities projects.
• Assist project/operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and schedule targets by proposing plan changes, recommending contractor payments, preparing progress reports, and coordinating work schedules
• Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems through independent studies, analysis, exercising judgment in information selection, and recommending safe engineering designs
• Contribute to CIMA+'s engineering practices by conducting studies, developing technical standards, exercising judgment in information evaluation, recommending designs, and providing guidance to other engineers
• Deliver exceptional customer service by defining engineering scope with clients, establishing design criteria, approving technical documentation, and assessing/reporting progress against standards and objectives for safe, quality, budget-compliant, and timely project completion
• Design overhead line structures and associated facilities for voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment
• Prepare project documentation like reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, and test plans per CIMA+'s practices
• Develop design work packages with scope, duration, and effort estimates, and manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost for existing and new facilities
• Provide signed and sealed engineering deliverables as the Professional of Record in accordance with the requirements of the applicable provincial engineering regulator and CIMA+'s practices.
• Offer technical assistance, construction support, and field reviews as required
• Perform structural design, analysis, and detailing for structures associated with transmission underground cables (including potheads, concrete vaults, cable duct banks) and transmission submarine cables (including terminations and potheads)
• Apply loads, design criteria, seismic analysis per regulatory and industry standards, considering associated civil, mechanical, electrical systems like foundations, lightning protection, conductors, and hardware
• Profile
• University Degree in Civil, Structural or MechanicalEngineering or equivalent experience
• Minimum of five(5) years of experience and a history of working in Transmission projects.
• Registered member of a Professional Engineering association in BCor another province of Canada
• Proficient in design/analysis software and CAD systems, along with familiarity of drawing standards
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Excellentcommunication abilities in English – written and verbal
• Experience in design tasks including scope, schedule and cost control
