Job description

The Trainmaster is responsible for managing and supervising the work of several teams in the transportation department and has a supporting role in various responsibilities related to customer service and the operation process for the railway.

Company: Western Labrador Rail Service Inc. and Knob Lake & Timmins Railway
Work location: Wabush / Labrador City (NF&L) and Schefferville (Qc)
(Fly-in/Fly-out 14/14 rotation if no local suitable candidates)
Salary: According to the company salary scale.
Status: Permanent

Responsibilities

The Trainmaster performs the following tasks:

  • Maintains a safe working environment for the entire department.
  • See to the employees’ safety, ensuring concerns or accidents are reported. that safety policies are always respected and that there is 100% rule compliance.
  • Manages the transportation teams, plans the scheduling and crew calling, participates in various management and safety conference calls.
  • Elaborates, supports, and coordinates the operations and train movements.
  • Perform various administrative tasks, create or maintain regular reports and rigorous data tracking.
  • Manage the teams while following the collective agreement in force while being responsible for leading disciplinary issues.
  • Lead regularly scheduled employee performance reviews and provide rigorous new hire training feedback, coaching and tracking.
  • Manages the crew flights and ensures documentation remains up to date for flights and scheduling.
  • Manage the requirements of different customer expectations and improve the processes in place as needed.
  • Provides professional customer service, remaining in continuous communication with customers and partners.
  • Provide ongoing support to the railway track maintenance department managers.
  • All other related tasks.
General Requirements
  • College degree in Administration and/or Management or have relevant experience in the railway industry (operations).
  • Have at least five (5) years of experience in the railway industry.
  • Qualification in railway operating rules (CROR)
  • Flexible with your working hours to see all of your various teams and clients.
  • Bilingual in oral and written - French & English – (minimum required, advanced level an asset)
  • Supervisory experience in any field.
  • Possess great flexibility to adapt in a changing environment.
  • Prepared to occasionally work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Proficient in MS OFFICE and various databases.
  • All other related tasks.
