Job description

Work Location: Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples

Fortescue is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Mechanical Fitting Trainer & Assessor to join our Trade Training Team. This role is responsible for the delivery, assessment, and ongoing development of accredited TAFE training for Apprentices and Pre‑Apprentices within the Mechanical Fitting trade.

Reporting to the Supervising Trade Apprenticeships, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality training and assessments aligned to the MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade qualifications. You will also support the broader Trade Training Centre through contribution to training resources, safety, and continuous improvement activities.

We are looking for a dedicated trainer who brings strong trade expertise, a passion for developing the next generation of tradespeople, and proven capability working within an RTO‑governed training environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver and assess Mechanical Fitting training and practical competencies aligned to MEM30205 or MEM30219
  • Prepare, review and maintain high‑quality training and assessment materials, learning resources, and documentation
  • Support validation and moderation processes in line with RTO and ASQA/TAC requirements
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and workshop‑based supervision to Apprentices and Pre‑Apprentices
  • Contribute to the safe operation of the Trade Training Centre, including daily workshop checks and adherence to site safety protocols
  • Participate in audits, compliance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist with induction programmes, learning support, and professional development delivery as required
  • Maintain accurate student records, results, reporting and administrative compliance in systems such as SuccessFactors
  • Work collaboratively with training administrators, lecturers, and external training providers
Qualifications and Experience
  • Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Mechanical Fitting) MEM30205 or MEM30219
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment TAE40116 (or equivalent meeting current credential requirements)
  • Demonstrated industry experience as a Mechanical Fitter, with strong practical workshop competency
  • Previous experience delivering and assessing nationally‑recognised training in an RTO, TAFE, mining or industrial environment (highly regarded)
  • Strong understanding of ASQA/TAC compliance and training package requirements
  • High level of organisation, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and mentor learners at different skill levels
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and communication platforms (Teams, Zoom)
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced training setting and contribute positively to a team environment
  • Additional high‑risk licences (Forklift, Dogging, Overhead Crane) are desirable
