City of Burlington is hiring for a Traffic Signals Engineer within Transportation Services. The role focuses on operating traffic signals, developing timing plans, and optimizing traffic flow. The incumbent will maintain records and analyze data to improve signal performance.
The position requires a post-secondary degree in Transportation Engineering Technology and at least four years of related experience, with proficiency in AutoCAD, Synchro, and Vistro. A valid G-class license is also needed.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of the Traffic Operations Centre, 1340 Brant Street, Burlington. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective September 2027, this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.
This position is responsible for the operation of traffic signals and systems, including the development of signal timing and coordination plans to optimize traffic flow, maintaining accurate records and databases, and the analysis of data to enhance signal system operation.
In this position, you will:
You have a post-secondary degree/diploma in Transportation Engineering Technology or a related field and at least 4 years of related work experience. You are also proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD as well as computer-based traffic control systems and signal timing and analysis programs such as Synchro and Vistro. You demonstrate a strong knowledge of traffic signal operations and theory, as well as excellent communication, analytical and time-management skills.
A valid Class G driver’s license is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract with no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire, and/or no administrative driver license (ADLS) suspensions.
