Job summary

Valard Construction in Calgary, AB is seeking a Traffic Control / Flag Person to join our Distribution group. You will flag two-way traffic, install signage, barricades, and support on‑road construction while maintaining a safe site.

The role reports to the Supervisor, Traffic Control and requires prior flagging/traffic control experience, a Class 5 driver's license with a clean abstract, CSTS training, and physical fitness to work outdoors.

Qualifications

• Prior flagging / traffic control experience.
• Class 5 driver’s license with clean abstract.
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors for long hours.
• Comfortable working in and around traffic and pedestrians.
• CSTS training is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Control and direct traffic and pedestrians at construction sites to ensure safe flow of vehicles.
• Set up traffic control signs, cones, and barriers to redirect traffic away from work areas.
• Stop traffic as required by the progress of work and maintain smooth traffic flow.
• Communicate with drivers and pedestrians to provide instructions and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Coordinate with other traffic control personnel for a smooth flow of traffic.
• Maintain a safe working environment with proper PPE and safety protocols.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and company policies.

Job description

Our Distribution group is currently looking to add a Traffic Control / Flag Person to our team, based in Calgary, AB.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Traffic Control, we are seeking someone with previous traffic control experience. This position will be responsible for flagging two-way traffic, installing construction signage, barricades, barrels, delineators, and assisting with preparation for on-road construction activity while maintaining a safe working environment.

Please note: this position will work Monday – Friday, 8-10 hours / day with occasional weekends and out of town work.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Control and direct traffic and pedestrians at construction sites or other locations to ensure the safe and efficient flow of vehicles
• Set up traffic control signs, cones, and barriers to redirect traffic away from work areas
• Stop traffic whenever required by the progress of work or keep traffic moving at reduced speeds to avoid tie-ups and delays
• Communicate with drivers and pedestrians to provide instructions and ensure compliance with traffic regulations
• Coordinate with other traffic control personnel to ensure a smooth flow of traffic
• Maintain a safe work environment with protocols and proper protective equipment
• Always maintain safety awareness and work in compliance with applicable health and safety regulations and policies

This position offers an hourly rate of$20 – $24, depending on experience and qualifications.
