JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Tow Truck Driver

Job Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities:

Roadside Assistance & Towing
  • Perform emergency towing, accident recovery, and abandoned vehicle removal using the correct towing equipment and procedures.
  • Respond promptly to service calls dispatched by repair garages, automobile associations, law enforcement, or company dispatch.
  • Assist customers with lockouts, battery boosts, tire changes, and fuel delivery as required.
  • Safely secure vehicles and cargo during transit in accordance with MTO regulations.
  • Attach necessary chains, cables, and lights to the towed vehicle and operate the winch system properly.
  • Clean and remove debris from damaged vehicles off the roadway to assist law enforcement.
  • Tow vehicles to designated locations, including repair shops, impound lots, and customer residences.
Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections of the tow truck before each shift and complete required documentation.
  • Keep tow truck fuel tanks at a minimum of half full at all times.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of both the interior and exterior of tow trucks.
  • Secure the storage yard by locking the gate when leaving.
  • Maintain and inspect towing equipment, winches, cables, and tie‑down straps to ensure they are in good working order.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Complete detailed service reports for each towing job, including:
  • Date, time, and location of service.
  • Vehicle details and service provided.
  • Distance towed and any damages noted.
  • Maintain accurate driver logs as per company and regulatory requirements.
Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations, ensuring that the tow truck is operated safely in all weather and road conditions.
  • Wear appropriate PPE and safety gear at all times.
  • Follow all MTO guidelines and legal procedures for towing and vehicle transport.
  • Attend training sessions and maintain driving certifications as required.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid G driver’s license with a clean driving abstract. Class D preferred.
  • Experience operating a tow truck in a professional setting.
  • Ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Thorough knowledge of proper towing procedures and roadside assistance best practices.
  • Strong ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to handle stressful situations professionally.
