Job summary

The Mustard Seed Society in Kamloops is seeking a part-time Thrift Store Associate to deliver friendly, frontline customer service and support volunteers.

Reporting to the Thrift Store Manager, you will greet customers, process sales, restock merchandise, and maintain an inviting store environment while following health and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a retail sales or customer service role.
• Sales or marketing experience is an asset.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
• Skilled at conflict resolution.
• Empathetic towards individuals facing mental health, addictions, chronic illness, homelessness, poverty and related challenges.

Responsibilities

• Sell product and support sales transactions.
• Manage customer complaints and concerns in a professional manner.
• Perform opening and closing procedures including cash out.
• Greet customers and provide assistance as needed.
• Restock inventory and create product displays.
• Clean and organize the store to ensure a welcoming environment to customers.
• Engage volunteers to grow and develop the Thrift Store.
• Directing and organizing volunteers to complete tasks as needed.
• Abide by all Health and Safety protocols and procedures (ex. incident reports, near misses), and mandatory training courses (NVCI, safeTalk, First Aid).
• Other duties as may be assigned.

As an Ambassador of The Mustard Seed to community participants and donors, the Thrift Store Associate will provide quality customer service to ensure that all parties are satisfied and appreciated. Reporting to the Thrift Store Manager, the Thrift Store Associate is responsible for providing support to the volunteers and staff, establish donor relationships, and provide front-line customer service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Sell product and support sales transactions

WORKING CONDITIONS

• As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees sign an agreement indicating that they will respect and not detract from our Statement of Faith
• Moderate mental effort: periods of high-volume workload with significant people interaction
• Must be able to stand, walk, climb and reach for extended periods of time
• Must be able to lift 50lbs routinely to load and sort merchandise as required.
• Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive.
  • Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions as many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments.
